APPEARANCE.
Lalafells are already small and visually adorable creatures as is, but Mimiya takes it up to eleven, willingly or otherwise. Mimiya is short for her age, and shorter than even the average teenage Lalafell, standing not even a full three feet/fulms tall. Her general appearance only adds onto her youthful air: wavy pastel hair, large purple eyes, and blotchy cheeks that make them look perpetually rosy… She's already been called a liar several times when she tells people that she's actually seen 25 full summers.

While her outfits vary in style when it comes to class, one thing is for certain: you will always see Mimiya in some sort of skirt. In normal circumstances, she tends to favor bright colors that remind her of flowers: mostly pinks or light purples, but she'll gladly go for whatever has a lot of color. Lately she's turned to more subdued and earthy tones, but still favors the occasional splash of color.

WARDROBE.
Thanks to the multi-class system in Final Fantasy XIV, characters are able to pick up and master every single class the game has to offer. Mimiya, in particular, has only (ICly) trained in and mastered four combat classes, bearing a unique outfit for each.
PERSONALITY.
(NOTE: Barring a few instances where the player can make a choice in dialogue that best fits their character's chosen personality, the Warrior of Light is, for all intents and purposes, a silent protagonist. S/he has a base personality to work off of within the storyline, but his/her general personality as a whole is completely left up to the player — which is actually encouraged by SquareEnix as the game has the option to create free companies for the purpose of roleplay. As such, while I will be reflecting the personality and reactions she had displayed throughout the storyline and specific events of Final Fantasy XIV in this section, much of Mimiya's personality is something I have created with facts and details from game lore to support it, making her a unique character.)

When one thinks of a Dunesfolk Lalafell that hails from the heart of Thanalan, they think of greedy, scheming penny-pinchers, and this is most certainly not without reason. As The Quicksand's proprietor, Momodi, once quoted: "If I painted "CERTAIN DEATH" on one door and "LIMITLESS WEALTH" on another, nine out of ten adventurers would go through the first, and the other bloke wouldn't be able to choose, on account of bein' Ul'dahn", proving that Ul'dah is a land of commerce with a very dog-eat-dog outlook in life. There is no mercy to be had in the desert nation, and finding one kindly soul that isn't already part of some like organization is as difficult as finding a needle in a haystack and as painful as pulling teeth. Mimiya is certainly not exempt from the cheapskate's rule, as she's a bit of a penny-pincher herself, but she certainly doesn't exhibit the cruelty many residents of Thanalan would show. In fact, while "little creature with a big heart" would be a cliched way to describe Mimiya Asturmaux, that is exactly the way many who've crossed paths with her would describe the little conjurer.

Mimiya is, what one would stereotype her as, an average JRPG healer: she holds great concern for just about everyone she comes into contact with, personally making sure that everyone is hale and whole so long as she's around. Her general personality isn't what one would describe as "moe", but rather has more of a motherly air to it. She cherishes her friends like family — as expected of a lalafell, who are said to place a great emphasis in familial bonds, something Mimiya is not exempt from — and never hesitates in aiding them for whatever task they need help in, whether it's asked of her or not, which could range from coaching Rhela'wo and U'sohn in the art of conjury, assisting Alichi'ra and Ashril with their experiments, to… just about whatever is humanely needed of her. This dedication is especially made towards her husband, Silvaire, whom she takes good care of and cherishes and loves very very much and don't let anyone say otherwise!! While familial bonds do play a factor in her generous nature, however, much of it stems from a piece of advice that was ingrained into her mind the moment Mother Miounne first put Mimiya's name in the Adventurer's Guild's registry: always aid those in need, no matter how trivial the task may be. She has taken this advice to heart as it's never failed her-- aside from monetary rewards, she's gained skills and friendships that are invaluable and irreplaceable, and so she continues to follow this advice to a T knowing that the reward is always worth the risk.

Despite striving to be a powerful healer and being known as a worthy Warrior of Light, Mimiya is far from perfect. While she holds more patience and empathy than the average person, like anyone else, she only has so much. Even Mimiya is susceptible to losing her temper should someone test her patience far enough, where in some instances she'll come off as something of a nag-- and with a group like hers, where the majority tends to be filled with male miqo'te that are at each others' throats, this gets tested a lot. There are also several instances where someone ends up doing something so horrible that she can never quite forgive them, the Garleans and Ascians being a prime example. In the same manner, Mimiya's opinion of someone can swiftly change should she be given reason to do so: while she initially thought Archbishop Thordan VII to be an ally, his treatment of the people of Ishgard and his own son all for the sake of maintaining power gave her no issue when it came to ultimately killing him. She's long been taught that the life of an adventurer is a kill-or-be-killed lifestyle, and while it's natural for her as a healer to want to save lives, Mimiya still has her fair share of blood on her hands from all the lives she's taken, either by her own hand or as an aid. It is something she is definitely not proud of.

There's also the fact that she's a bit of a ditz. While Mimiya may be fairly book-smart, she tends to be a little slow with social nuances, missing a lot of references and needing to be constantly taught about such things (as referenced by the constant "yes/no" options one could respond with to a "Do you know about X?" question). She's also slow in noticing certain details: often times her head will be in the clouds, thinking about a stray thought, and she never notices a person who could be standing right next to her or that someone is referring to her within earshot until after a good minute. Her focus increases when she's focused on a task, whether it's in battle or while she's focused on a craft, but even then she develops a sort of "tunnel vision" that keeps her attention solely focused on that task and nothing else. As she continued with her adventures, her ability to focus on her surroundings has improved, but there are still instances where she loses focus and not notice someone calling for her for the third time. Her focus is especially acute when she's doing her Warrior of Light thing-- after all, as a savior of Eorzea, you have to look as competent as people believe you to be.

Alas, the pressure of being a Warrior of Light can be quite daunting for someone as selfless as Mimiya. By technical terms, Mimiya is not a "true" Warrior of Light, as she had not started her adventuring career until five years after the Battle of Carteneau, well after the Calamity-- by that definition, she's more of a "successor" Warrior of Light than a "proper" Warrior of Light. It's an immense pressure placed on her, especially considering her mentors — O'danya and Alichi'ra — were present at the Battle of Carteneau and thus worthy of the title Warrior of Light, leaving Mimiya constantly feeling like she needs to do better. As such, she has low self-esteem and something of an inferiority complex, leaving her feeling like she can always do better-- no, that she has to be better so that she can keep up with the veterans and feel like she is, in fact, a true Warrior of Light. She does her best to keep this complex under wraps, however, and always puts on a brave front even in hard times, when she's terrified out of her wits internally. She can't let anyone see that she's scared: she has to be brave, because she's a Warrior of Light and Warriors of Light do not show fear in the face of danger.

This… doesn't always work out for her, and there are signs that the pressure is clearly taking a toll on the lalafell. Time and time again throughout the storyline, the Warrior of Light is put under immense pressure, with the events that happened at the Sultana's banquet and her stay in Ishgard barely being defined as "trying", especially for a healer like Mimiya. Repeatedly, especially in recent times, Mimiya has had to watch as her friends sacrifice themselves, one by one, so that she and her fellow Warriors could achieve their mission. She had never quite recovered from the shock of witnessing the Sultana "die" before her eyes and her fellow Scions staying behind in Ul'dah as she and her friends ran ahead with accusations of regicide on their heads, and the memory of Haurchefant and Ysayle sacrificing their own lives (Haurchefant in particular, as she cared for him immensely) still haunts her with nightmares. While she is now at peace after felling Nidhogg, getting the Scions' name cleared, going on her journey of reflection, and getting married, these worries still tend to haunt her from time to time, especially because she's now married. Silvaire has been through much after losing his previous family to the Dragonsong War, Mimiya is often plagued with thoughts like "what if I lose Silvaire?" or "what if something happens to me?". Silvaire may have been a driving force towards her recovery from the events of Heavensward, but at the same time, he's also the source of an all-new mess of worry and paranoia thrust upon Mimiya… Not that she would ever blame him, of course-- she would sooner blame herself than thrust any blame upon him.

Her current mental instability is further exacerbated by an event that occurred as a circumstance of her poor luck when helping others. By helping Fray and gaining the Soul of the Dark Knight, Mimiya's thoughts tend to stray to the darker and merciless side more often than not due to the influence of the darkness. She has tried to suppress it since she first obtained the soul crystal, but the grief and despair she felt from Haurchefant's death caused her to lose that control in several instances, particularly when she's in the Dark Knight class ("Life for death. I shall have Ser Zephirin's heart for what he did to Haurchefant!"). She enters a state of bloodlust when geared as a Dark Knight, becoming horrifyingly merciless to her enemy as she issues what she believes is "justice"-- which is basically defined as killing the enemy dead until they're nothing but a mess of blood and bone. Thankfully she has learned to control it at this point now that she's at peace with the deaths and unconfirmed condition of her dear allies, and the darkness barely shows in her outward personality, but there are still very rare instances where she'll enter a berserked state if she's feeling intense anger or despair. In addition, she absolutely abhors the mentality she gains as a Dark Knight, so she avoids using the class in battle as often as possible.

The world is an unfair place for a Warrior of Light, and there are moments where Mimiya feels like she can't go on, yet still she still holds on strong. She's grown from her naivete view of the world into a capable woman who knows that not all lives can be saved, but she will still work to save as many lives as she is able. Mimiya and her friends had been beaten down time and time again by the enemy, yet with the constant support of her allies, they are able to recover from their hardships with their heads held high. With her recent marriage to Silvaire, Mimiya has an even greater reason to press forward, not only as a child of the mothercrystal Hydaelyn, but one who has also been acknowledged by the wyrmking, Midgardsormr.

Mimiya is still one of the Warriors of Light: the hope for not only her husband, her friends, or the realm of Eorzea, but for all of Hydaelyn. Because of this, she is still able to fight on.

HISTORY.
The Battle of Carteneau. A great battle between the warring Garlean and Eorzean empires that would become one of the bloodiest battles known to mankind. In a desperate attempt to fend off the headstrong Eorzeans, the Garleans sought to drop the red moon, Dalamud, onto the battlegrounds, summoning the great primal: Bahamut. Bahamut wreaked havoc and destruction upon the war, killing hundreds of thousands of Eorzeans and Garleans without remorse, which became known in history as The Calamity. It was only stopped when the leader of the Circle of Knowing, Louisoix Leveilleur, was granted power from the Twelve, enough to seal the primal away, supposedly for good. Aiding him in this effort (and eventually saved by him) was a small band of adventurers that had come to be revered as heroes in the realm. Despite their fame, however, no one really knows who they were: names were completely forgotten, and any recollection of their faces only grants them a memory of the adventurers bathed in a blinding light, obscuring any detail of their faces. It is because of this that the band of adventurers — heroes — had become collectively known as the "Warriors of Light".

Mimiya Miya, despite being classified as a "Warrior of Light" herself, was not among these warriors.

Rewind to about seventeen years before The Calamity, to a Lalafell family of four welcoming their fifth and final member. Mimiya was born into and lived a fairly normal life with her parents and older brothers, Mimiharu and Mimifupa, living comfortably as a miner's daughter in the then-thriving Golden Bazaar. As her family was filled with busybodies (besides her father, her mother worked at a sundries shop, and her brothers either helped their father or trained to become warriors, overzealous as they were), Mimiya was usually left to tend to the house chores and cooking their daily supper when her mother was too exhausted to help. She and her brothers were home-schooled when their mother had the day off, which only added to her shy demeanor as she… didn't have much time to mingle with others her own age. Nonetheless, it didn't detract from her compassionate nature as she was one of the friendlier residents of the bazaar, greeting everyone with a smile and a chirp in her voice.

While things were normal for the family for a while, everything took a nosedive when ten-year-old Mimiya claimed to see falling balls of flame in a dream. Some time after that, a massive headache overtook her and she saw something that shook her to the core: a cave-in at the mine her father was working in, with him and two other miners ending up trapped behind the rubble. She burst into inconsolable tears when she awoke, long before one of the miners arrived at their home, bearing the news that their father was among the seven that had perished in a cave-in.

With the head of the family gone, the brothers took up mining in earnest, so that they could continue to support their family. Even with their combined income, though, they still made far less than what their father made, which led their mother to quit the sundries shop and convert their home into a sort of bed-and-breakfast for any passersby: a risky move as their home wasn't very large (they would only have two rooms if the family shared one, three if they ended up converting one of the spare rooms), but one that they could profit from as there was no proper inn yet established in the Golden Bazaar. By some miracle, it succeeded, and the family was able to use their combined income to support the B&B and keep their heads just above water. Their home welcomed a myriad of individuals, from traveling merchants to hardened adventurers, and young, impressionable Mimiya soaked in the stories of each and every one of the tenants as she tended to their suppers. One of their longer tenants, in particular, struck a chord with her: she befriended a passing conjurer who would relay stories of his time adventuring with his allies, healing them as they fought many a foe and helping those in need. As he left, the nameless conjurer said that he saw a great potential in her and that should she wish to, she should travel to the Black Shroud and take up conjury. It left her starry-eyed, and remained in the back of her mind even as years passed.

Then the war between Garlemald and Eorzea reached a high point. Mimiharu was enlisted in the war and immediately sent to the Carteneau Flats to aid in the effort as the family could do nothing else but send him off. Fingers were crossed, prayers were made, and when the Battle of Carteneau reached the family's ears, reckless Mimifupa couldn't sit back any longer. It may have been four years since the loss of their father, but the family didn't want to lose another member, no matter how honorable his death may have been. After convincing Mimiya to join him, the two of them sneaked out in the middle of the night, taking their family chocobo with them as they rode into the direction of the Black Shroud. The pair wouldn't get very far as the effect of the Calamity finally reached Thanalan by that time, and the two of them had front row seats to the destruction of their home. Being so close, they just barely managed to escape the worst of the destruction; an explosion that was too close for comfort knocked them off of the chocobo hard, sending them flying several yards/yalms away and knocking them out. Before succumbing to unconsciousness, Mimiya heard a single resounding word that rung in her mind with an astonishing clarity: "Hear."

Mimiya awoke in her bed with the sounds of her mother screaming at her brother over their recklessness, dazed but very much alive and more or less unharmed. Somehow they had survived the ordeal, despite their proximity, and were brought home while unconscious by a small group who was running to the bazaar to escape the worst of the destruction. Mimiharu was eventually sent back home, in terrible condition with his right arm completely missing and the entire right side of his body horribly mangled, but miraculously alive. For nigh a full year, Mimiharu was left bedridden and in near-constant pain, as Mimifupa continued mining and their mother tended to the B&B while Mimiya was left to care for her eldest brother. The pain he felt was unbearable for Mimiya to see, and the conjurer's words rung in her mind once more: if she took up conjury, she could possibly find a way to ease her brother's pain. This thought plagued her, even as Mimiharu was eventually able to stand and walk (more like hobble) and help with the business. It continued to plague her even when Mimifupa came home with news of a promotion: after nearly a decade of work, he was finally at level with their late father and would be making the same amount of income as he did. It continued to plague her even when her family was finally granted stability after years of being at their lowest.

Mimiya watched as her homeland began to change for the worse and as the Golden Bazaar began to lose its luster. Business dwindled, but with Mimifupa's paycheck, the family was able to stay in the bazaar even when others were forced to move on. Mimiya watched as heavy rains poured in the desert, as foreign flora began to spring up from the brittle sands, and as strange monsters began to invade the already perilous roads. With her family now well-to-do and with Mimiharu's assistance, her list of chores dwindled and she was left to allow the conjurer's words to fester in her mind. Eventually, the day came that she decided: for her ailing brother who still walked with pain in each step, she would put her potential to use and strengthen it-- she would follow in that adventuring conjurer's footsteps and become an adventurer herself. Naturally, at first her mother would hear none of it; adventuring was risky and she nearly lost Mimiya once already due to her foolhardiness. But her brothers chimed in, supporting her decision with the argument that it was the first real decision little Mimiya made on her own. Besides that, becoming a healer could benefit herself as well as Mimiharu (let's be real, being forced into a field that forces you to focus could be beneficial for an airhead like her). Eventually her mother acquiesced (though it still took days of convincing), and with her trusty old crook and an empty sack, nineteen-year-old Mimiya waved goodbye to her family as she boarded the first carriage bound for the Black Shroud…
